How To Be Happier | Festive Edition

Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. But as we all know tensions are high and stress levels are rising as the 25th crawls upon us. With that in mind I thought I would share a few more ways to keep yourself and those around you positive and looking in the right direction as the year comes to a close.

Get cooking

A lot of people think that cooking can be complicated, expensive or time-consuming. But a couple of simple recipes are all you need to spend some time to yourself and get your loved ones around the table. Vegetables are your best friend, why not throw together some festive salads packed with blue cheese or chili prawns. Or spend the evening baking some Christmas cookies, most super markets have pre-made dough so all you have to do is cut them out and decorate!

Daily greens

Left over salad anyone? With the boxes of chocolate stacking up and the alcohol flowing it's important to keep your body in tip top shape. A healthy body is a healthy mind. And making sure you include a side portion of veg every day can really help to keep your spirits high. They help to detoxify, beautify and boost your energy levels.

Get creative

Don't stress about buying presents, boxes of cards and gift wrap. Spend an evening creating your own and get your creative juices flowing. It's super relaxing and those receiving them will special knowing that you've gone the extra mile. I have a post on homemade gift wrapping and Pinterest will be your best friend when it comes to inspiration. Be proud of your creations, it feeds the soul.

Take ten minutes for yourself

The streets bustling with people and no doubt work has been manic these past few weeks. In the run up to Christmas try to take ten minutes for yourself. Read a book, call a loved one or go for a walk and admire your neighbours festive decorations. I take the time every morning to look at myself in the mirror and saying "today I will have a great day", it helps to put me in the right frame of mind. I then spend ten minutes doing something that brings me happiness, sometimes it's just catching up on my favourite blogs but it's something that I enjoy and appreciate.

What makes you happy? How do you overcome the stress of the festive season?
