Makeup Without the Cake.

I have always believed that makeup is an enhancer. With the exception of covering blemishes and redness of course. Whilst doing my makeup I always try to make sure that my base is seamless, no lines, patches or caking. We've all had one of those days where everything goes wrong, so I've picked out the best products to make sure that day will never come again.

Foundation.

My first base of choice is a liquid foundation, the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. This lightweight foundation blends into the skin perfectly. I use my hands to warm up the product and then smooth it onto my skin. The colour range is quite good so your almost guaranteed to find a colour to suit your skin. It's pretty light coverage but totally build-able for days where you need a little something more.

Another one of my favourites is the Bare Minerals Original Mineral Foundation. This is a complete wonder product for me. You can achieve anything from light coverage to full flawless coverage with a naturally luminous finish that won't clump or cake. "The creamy minerals diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles without drying out your skin. Its silky, soft texture looks like a powder, but feels like a cream and buffs on beautifully. Under Eye Concealer.

For me there are only two under eye concealers that really make a difference. (That I've tried) The first is the L'Oreal Lumi Magique Concealer. This is essential for a luminous look. Just swipe under your eyes, over the outer corners and along the brow bone for a brighter complexion. Blend using you ring finger as this is the most delicate. This seriously minimises dark circles and gives an instant 8 hour sleep look.

Another more pricey favourite, is the Dior Hydra Life BB Eye Cream. This is the first eye care treatment designed to help reduce dark circles and puffiness. Again just swipe this around the eyes, in the same places as mentioned before and blend using your ring finger. Instantly the eye look revitalised and brightened in one easy step. Your eyes look fresher and give your complexion the pop of energy it needs.

I use all types on concealers on top of liquid foundations as the majority of imperfections can be reduced with that step along. When using mineral foundations I use concealers after my primer but before the rest of my routine. Liquid first, powder/mineral later.

Setting powder.

Setting powders reduce shine, keep your makeup in place and give off an air brushed finish. The Revlon Nearly Naked Powder is great for touching up on the go, not matter how many times you top to touch up it never builds up, just simply blends together. The packaging is a little big and annoying, so throw the sponge away and keep a compact brush with you for travelling.

My holy grail of setting powders has to be the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. Oh my goodness. I first tried this as part of a "make under" on my local Bare Minerals counter and I fell in love! Just the smallest amount is enough to pull everything together, give my skin an airbrushed finish and keep my makeup fresher for longer. It's lightweight and doesn't have an powder residue. I asked the assistant why this is, and the minerals in Bare Minerals products melt into the skin as you buff in the product. It may add a few extra minutes to your makeup routine, but it is worth it! The down side to this product is that it's not travel friendly. However a newly packaged version has just launched, remember those rubbers that you would side out of a circle? Just imagine that, but the rubber is a brush that collects product once it's closed. Take a look, I will be purchasing one of these when I go to re-stock. No questions asked.

I hope that you've enjoyed this little low-down on all things cake free. I always try to think about light, breathable formula's and the rest just comes naturally.

How do avoid the dreaded caked face? Have you tired any of the products mentioned, or know of any that I should be trying?
